Mission

The Mission...

Our world is full of dichotomies — liberal vs. conservative, guilty vs. innocent, rich vs. poor — that are repeated so frequently in the media they appear immovable. Mechanical engineers know that when the axes of two pulleys are perpendicular to each other — like pundits talking past each other — they can be made to generate parallel power by means of a quarter turn belt. We at Quarter Turn Media believe that by looking past the false frames in which many major issues of our day are bound, by seeking details with a demanding eye, by embracing contradictions with a patient and generous mind, we can begin to move the frame.

Founded in 2016 by director/photographer Erica Modugno Dagher and science writer/editor Amy Bianco, Quarter Turn Media produces investigative documentaries with intellectual ballast and cultural import. We take on difficult topics, usually explored first by serious nonfiction authors, and add light, color, sound, and narrative techniques to engage audiences in issues they might not otherwise have considered. We are currently at work on our first documentary series, The Pain Game: A Fake Crime Story, which takes a deep look at the origins of the opioid crisis from an unexpected angle — that of physicians who have been subjected to federal criminal prosecution.
